NEXT         Paternoster Seal trail

Paternoster on the West Coast of South Africa is the capital of sea kayaking in our country. This quaint fishing village is one of the last remaining traditional fishing villages.

Here we kayak amongst seals, dolphins, whales and amazing bird life. dolf1.jpg (43748 bytes)

Paternoster bay is home to the endemic Heaviside's dolphin and Dusky dolphins often play amongst the kayaks!     Cape fur seals are abundant  in this area and the nearby seal colony is one of my favorite places to visit. The seals love kayaks and often play and jump around us.

voels1.jpg (56488 bytes)  African black oyster catchers are seen on almost every trip and the African penguins are sited regularly. Several bird breeding colonies can be visited by  kayak.

This unique coastline with hundreds of granite boulders scattered in the ocean  and the protected bays is ideal for even the inexperienced paddlers.

Trips are run every day when conditions are good. The best time of year for trips around the Paternoster area is from October to May with the prime period being February to mid-May.
