NEXT LANGEBAAN LAGOON
This picturesque lagoon has four islands in it. Schaapen island
is the closest to the town of Langebaan and got its name from the sheep that were kept
there in early colonial times because on the mainland the predators were to much of a
threat.
A lot of birds breed on the island and rabbits that were introduced by Jan van Ribeeck in the 1650's still have some living ancestors that can sometimes be seen from the kayaks.
Church-haven is a small settlement on the western bank of the lagoon and fishing from your kayak can get interesting here as game fish frequent these waters!
The adjoining West Coast National Park has a spectacular spring flower display. We offer kayaking and hiking in spring! (August-October)
This bay is also the start and end of yacht based kayak trips.
